FEELINGS WITHOUT WEIGHT on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Early in the morning get your suit on and I'm warning you
Put lotion on the sun can burn real mean
But don't forget your dreams to bring along
Mary's packing sandwiches and I can bring the bandages
This summer we will climb the cliffs for sure
Forget who you were 'cause we are gone

I've been fading for so long I'm lost completely
I long to just get washed out in the waves
And feel the ocean floor fall out beneath me
Feelings without weight

Reaching for the radio who does the song we'll never know
Though this moment will be frozen ever long
I won't forget the place or the expression that your face lingered on
And though you sit right next to me your eyes at times are hard to see
Secrets that car windows only know
Are you remembering the hands of a lover in the sand long ago

I've been fading for so long I'm lost completely
I long to just get washed out in the waves
And feel the ocean floor fall out beneath me
Feelings without weight

Stop and we will pay to park and Mary is afraid of sharks
Even though she knows she will dive in
We are within reach we have reached the beach so let us swim

I've been fading for so long I'm lost completely
I long to just get washed out in the waves
And feel the ocean floor fall out beneath me
Feelings without weight

INTO THE WASTELAND on Chris Trapper: Hey You

I get two weeks paid vacation
but spend half of the year waiting
For it to come to me
If I quit no one would notice
I guess my name tags out of focus
'Cause my boss calls me hey you

Scream I want to scream into the wasteland surrounding me

It's the same old situation
Meet my friends out they're all wasted
Like they will always be
I could beat them I could join them
My resistance just annoys them
Feeling gravity

Scream I want to scream into the wasteland surrounding me
Soon when I'm gone you will see you don't know me
Don't want to waste another day
I want to steal myself away
Before I fade into the paint on the wall
Gonna sail across the line
Gonna leave this mess behind
Been feeling like it's much too far to fall

Packed my suitcase packed the trunk
Left the rent check you're in luck
And then I locked the door
And as I checked the rear view mirror
I saw the sunrise so much clearer
Than I ever did before

Don't want to waste another day
I want to steal myself away
Before I fade into the paint on the wall
Gonna sail across the line
Gonna leave this mess behind
Been feeling like it's much too far to fall
Scream I want to scream into the wasteland surrounding me

SAY IT LOUD on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Once I was a speck of dust
That travelled on a greyhound bus to town
For you my love
Watched the road black and alone
A porch light on at every home I'd see
So far from me

Why am I always looking down
Walk and my footsteps make no sound
Saying I love you
Say it loud
Say it loud

Somewhere between Toronto and Austin I get off at the wrong stop
No I'm not lost
Spent the night in a diner fighting off the urge to start a brand new life
Right here tonight

Why am I always inside out
Caught in the corners of the crowd
Saying I love you say it loud
Wheels spin on the ground to another town

So the waitress wants to sit with me and take a break
I ask her why she stayed in this small town
She said in this world you never can see everything
So might as well see one thing through true eyes

Why am I always inside out
Caught in the corners of the crowd
Saying I love you
Say it loud
Say it loud
Say it loud
Say it loud

IN FROM THE OUTSIDE on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Stay with me for a thousand years
'til our mistakes wash away my dear
When sweet Maria is by my side
Like a river I'm open wide

Ooh my dreams
Are calling me
To come inside from the outside now
Wasted my time
Standing in line
I'll come inside from the outside now

Stay with me 'til the end of time
Feel your heart beating next to mine
Life your gates up and feel my flood
Sweat on sweat and blood on blood

Ooh my dreams
Are calling me
To come inside from the outside now
Wasted my time
Standing in line
I'll come inside from the outside now

Breathe your last breath and I will die
Just let my last wish be satisfied
Bury Maria right by my side
Dust and bones intertwined

Ooh my dreams
Are calling me
To come inside from the outside now
Wasted my time
Standing in line
I'll come inside from the outside now

SEE SOMETHING FLY on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Threw all my possessions in an old suitcase
Couldn't tell my wanting from my waste
Took the elevator to the fifty seventh floo
Tucked my chin and barreled through the door
Threw open the window pane and tossed it off the ledge
Watched the pieces scatter out and this is what I said

I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I'm hopelessly devoted to the dream that's in my mind
I'll find it

Headed for the airport in an early morning cab
The sunrise split the skyline right in half
A quiet conversation I told him of my plan
He wished me luck and quickly shook my hand
Now I'm standing on the side of the road just staring at the sky
Waiting on the sound of jets to leave the ground behind

I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I'm hopelessly devoted to the dream that's in my mind
Dream that's in my mind
Dream that's in my mind

Somewhere some kid stays awake at night lying on his bed
Dreaming of another world with rockets in his head

I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I'm hopelessly devoted to the dream that's in my mind
I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly
I want to see something fly

WISH I WAS COOL on Chris Trapper: Hey You

I used to be a geek every day of the week
And something stupid came out every time that I'd speak
Every saturday night I'd have no immediate plans
I'd hang out with mom and dad playing board games again
I was bored like a fool
I wish I was cool

Well I was useless in class so I tried out for sports
Where the jocks got a kick out of yanking my shorts
Stealing my towel when my shower was done
I'd walk through the locker room I couldn't find one
I had to streak through the school
I wish I was cool
Mama dear mom I think my shorts are coming down

I held on tight to my books kept my mouth shut in class
In my hand me down clothes even the teachers would laugh
I'd pray to the clock I'd eat lunch alone
And we havent' even gotten to the bus ride home
No teachers no rules
I wish I was cool

You see we lived in the hose with too many kids
Too many pets and not much food in teh fridge
The kids on the bus called it the house of the hicks
'cause there's too many cars on the lawn to be fixed
But my dad lost his tools
I wish I was cool
Mama dear mom your broken boy is coming home

So what is the moral of the story you say
The king of the jocks turned out to be gay
And all the little cool kids stayed in their small town
Where some used to be nerd can boss them around
It's our turn to be cruel
It's our turn to be cruel
I wish I was cool
Cool yeah yeah
Cool yeah yeah

FORGET ME on Chris Trapper: Hey You

If I convinced you to finally come with me
I'd never believe that you'd stay
'cause your mother's always guilting you
Or your dad stands in your way
So you stay for your job or the two headed slob
As his little head used you for play
Though his big head can't remember not to call you his other girlfriend's name

You say forget me
Forget me
Forget me
Forget me
As soon as I finally try
You won't let me
You won't let me

After much begging and pleading
You finally agree to meet me to talk
If you promise not to bring up what's his name
I'll promise not to show up drunk
What a surprise I get stuck in your eyes
And start twisting your arm to come home
I'm tired of being the clown in the crowd
Get 'em laughing but go home alone

You say forget me
Forget me
Forget me
Forget me
As soon as I finally try
You won't let me
You won't let me

Six months past the time you said I'd passed my prime
Who thought I'd find somebody new
A sweetheart who always agrees with me
Who I always compare to you
She wants too much time
I can barely unwind
I don't know what the hell I should do
I'll probably just feed her a line
And then string her along
That's what I learned from you

You say forget me
Forget me
Forget me
Forget me
As soon as I finally try
You won't let me
You won't let me

You say forget me
Forget me
Forget me
Forget me
As soon as I finally try
You won't let me
You won't let me

35TH BIRTHDAY on Chris Trapper: Hey You

It's my thirty fifth birthday
I've got no plans today
'cause it fell on a Monday
I guess I'm lucky that way

So I'm calling in sick
I head for the fridge
There's a glass of champagne
That somebody hid
In the side of the door
With a note that said
Bore where does the time go

So where does the time go
Where does the time go
How every year shows
What nobody knows

It's my thirty fifth birthday
And the kitchen is cold
Like a leftover breakfast
That's a day too old

So I'm taking a walk
Along the street
People in cars that I'll never meet
Remember this time
Take every step slow
Where does the time go

Where does the time go
Where does the time go
How every year shows
What nobody knows

Where does the time go
Nobody knows

PERFUMED HAIR on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Still wearing my makeup from yesterday
I'm a corner cutting clown
Lower the curtains down
There's no more crowds around

See Mary Jane sneaking a cigarette
Like a shadow in the room
Watching the cloud go by
Wishing that she could fly

This is the circus
The backstage door
Every act I've seen before

Somebody's spilling a drink on my
Somebody claimed I saved his life
Here's hoping he's still alright

In thorugh the back door in Baltimore
From the cradle to the stage
Singing my pain away
Hoping someone relates

This is the circus
The beer soaked floor
Come take me eyes I've seen before

But when I feel alone
When I just don't know
I hear your voice on the phone
Saying when I come home you'll be there
You say you just can't wait

But I'll be home too late
So when I find you asleep
I will turn out the lights
And kiss your perfumed hair

Blow out of the club to the parking lot
From the highway to the street
Reach in to find the key
Locked deep inside of me

Seeing my shadow a second late
Trying to navigate the stairs
Hoping that you still care
Tripping up everywhere

This is the circus
The place you land
Hoping you can come back again

But when I feel alone
When I just don't know
I hear your voice on the phone
Saying when I come home you'll be there
You say you just can't wait

But I'll be home too late
So when I find you asleep
I will turn out the lights
And kiss your perfumed hair

TEAR CHOKED EYE on Chris Trapper: Hey You

It hasn't rained here for two months straight
There's brush fires all around
One hundred degrees and I was out too late
Loitering downtown

I must admit that I was a whiskey drunk
And burnt from the southwest sun
Bitter and broken and all out of luck
But when all hope is gone

That's when I need to see my love
When all the wells are dry
But all I taste when I leave my love
Is the salt from a tear choked eye

There's no police on these mean mean streets
They've given up for years
There's built up tenements by a bone dry creek
Nothing grows down here

That's where I need to see my love
When all the wells are dry
But all I taste when I leave my love
Is the salt from a tear choked eye

But nobody's buying back a broken heart
There's no pearl in an empty shell
We're two desperate shadows sinking in the dark
Of a one last chance motel

That's where I need to meet my love
When all the wells are dry
But all I taste when I leave my love
Is the salt from a tear choked eye

YEARNING TO BE BURNING on Chris Trapper: Hey You

Take me out tonight
I want to forget about the fight I had
Last night I only learned nobody wins
I want to drink I want to dance
I want some meaningless romance
I want to wonder who's bed my heart's racing in

We are yearning to be burning
Like a whisper to a scream
We are lovers undiscovered
Out of time and in between

I crave uncomplicated all I'm getting is frustrated
With my job my place the shoes I'm stading in
I want to drive all over town
And roll all of the windows down
So I can feel the cold air crash against my skin

We are yearning to be burning
Like a whisper to a scream
We are pennies in the fountain
Gonna drown before we gleam

Studying the exit sign
Pining on a drink or three
Someone come and take me from the lost soul party

I met you in September
You're a stranger by November
And I hope I never see your ghost again
But until then I'll always wonder
Why the bridges I drive under
All remind me of some accidental friend

We are yearning to be burning
Like a whisper to a scream
We are lovers undiscovered
Out of time and in between

BETTER HALF on Chris Trapper: Hey You

There she was under the street lamps buzz
Thinking should she just go home or stay out tonight
She could see some friends stay til the house band ends
And in the end make all the wrongs feel right

'cause it's hard enough finding a true true love
She might take your bluff this time
If you make her laugh and see her better half
You can cut straight through the line
She will be just fine

Now she's at the door where so many nights before
It seemed like half her life might've passed her by
From across the room he'd better say hi soon
'cause with or without you she will be just fine

'cause it's hard enough finding a true true love
She might take your bluff this time
If you make her laugh and see her better half
You can cut straight through the line
She will be just fine

'cause it's hard enough finding a true true love
She might take your breath this time
If you make her laugh and see her better half
You can cut straight through the line
She will be just fine

LONELY VALENTINE on Chris Trapper: Hey You

I've been humming your song all day
I've been wasting the words away
Lonely valentine
Please come back to me
One more time

I've been wandering in every room
But I can't find a trace of you
Lonely valentine
Please come back to me
One last time

Watching steam turn to clouds
See the skyline send its angels on down
To lift my feet off this stone
To complete me though I'm still more alone
I'll just say I will wait for you

I went running into the crowd
I was calling your name out loud
Lonely valentine
Better luck next time
Somewhere down the line

I got home I was out of breath
You were waiting on my front steps
With a valentine
It said that you'll be mine
'til the end of time

Watching steam turn to clouds
See the skyline send its angels on down
To lift my feet off this stone
To complete me though I'm still more alone
I'll just say I will wait for you
I'll just say I will wait for you

EVERY TIME I SEE YOU on Chris Trapper: Hey You

The rollercoasters blew me away
I get my spills from riding the waves
And I didn't think of you once today
Except when I heard that song

My friends won't dare to mention your name
They say to let the ghost of you fade away
So I read my book in a crowded cafe
And there was nothing wrong

'til in you walked from the outside world
Too busy now to try
'cause everytime I see you
Everytime I see you
Everytime I see you I want to cry cry cry

Angela how are you today
I'm glad to hear the party was great
Still of course I know you can't wait to go overseas
Me I'm fine I'm just taking a break
From fly by romance that always ends too late
You know I hate to keep you waiting for my poor sake

So back you go to the outside world
I couldn't look you in your eyes
'cause everytime I see you
Everytime I see you
Everytime I see you I want to cry cry cry

And back you go to the outside world
Too busy now to try
And everytime I see you
Everytime I see you
Everytime I see you I want to cry cry cry

TIME TO FORGIVE on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

There’s man who keeps his hopes held
high up in a paper cup
He’s got that ripped down at the bottom,
Spills down on the floor bad luck
So, It’s that which makes you desperate
That which drives you to your knees
Makes you steal from your own brother
and run endlessly

It’s time to forgive these sins

And a woman is not wicked if she starts
wishing for herself
When her husband’s out around the town,
courting someone else
There’s a man who comes to visit her
each August afternoon
It will last her through the winter
when she’s hurt and confused

It’s time to forgive these sins

Four true friends are speeding
parked there in a parking lot
Sometimes in suburbia it seems like
drugs are all you got
The ambulance was screaming,
you were shaking just like death
Now a whole town is shattered,
there’s only three true friends left

It’s time to forgive these sins

ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

The movie theatre’s closing down in Memphis
While a blues band’s burning up the stage
across town
The street lamps hang like saviours
from their crosses
While the losers throw their scratch tickets
on the ground

As the moon shines down on
Elvis Presley Boulevard
And the tourists trapped with the cameras
in their hands
Who would have ever realized that such
a short drive could seem so far
When you’re a sucker searching for
the promised land

The casino manager lost the farm in Vegas
Cocaine charges sent from the D.A.
He blamed it on the lack of entertainment
He said he’d never lose his shirt
that way

You can bet your life the most dangerous
drugs are legal
And some doctors will feed you death
straight from their hands
So even if you’re loved by fifty million people
There’s not one of them gonna be there
where you land

Seen a white limousine on Elvis Presley
Boulevard

MIDNIGHT CABARET on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

I took off my clothes,
threw ‘em down to the floor
and then I left behind my wallet
and walked out my front door
I was standing stark naked
right there in the street
With nothing covering my chest
and nothing covering my feet
Until the old lady screamed
“somebody call the police…
Lock him up, lock up the super freak”

This ain’t no two bit town or midnight cabaret
And then the jury looked down and said
“son what have you got to say?”
I’d rather look like a fool
than go my whole damn life afraid

Well, people leaving for work, they just sat
still in their cars
By the way everybody was acting you
would have thought I was armed
But I was just feeling back to nature,
like I could finally be free
’Til the police car pulled up and said
“son, come with me”
I said “officer, I’m tired of being
judged by my looks.
People keep putting down the cover and
never reading the book”

You can’t bury a brand name
with you in your grave
and if you walk around naked,
think of the cash you’ll save.
You can pack up your suitcase
in two seconds flat
And you won’t have to worry
‘cause everybody will know if you’re fat
May the wind always be with you
at your back
And may you never be afraid
of anything you lack

SUMMERTIME IS HERE on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

The cops are taking a break
down at the coffee shop
‘cause all was peace and quiet
out on the city block
Me and Marie are laughing
and we cannot stop.
Summertime is here

The old man in the white pants
is waxing his Cadillac
While sulking little Sally
wants her boyfriends back
But the boys are laying their pennies flat on the railroad tracks
Summertime is here

And Mrs. Lee is sipping iced tea
beneath the willow tree
While the kid on the clarinet’s
struggling with the melody
The smell of a backyard barbeque
sparks memories
Summertime is here

Hey, wait for me, wait for me by the sea
Time hurries by and you can’t
buy memories

And as we’re walking we take a detour
to the ice cream shop
Where the coach of the little league
goes and buys the whole team pops
The air is dry, the ice cream’s cool,
and the sun is hot
Summertime is here

Teenage lovers holding hands
beneath the underpass
He says “can I kiss you”
she says “you don’t need to ask”
In the blink of an eye you’ll try
but there’s no turning back
Summertime is here

HOUSE NEXT TO THE DRIVE-IN on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

I grew up in a house next to the Drive-In
We’d sit up on the roof and watch the cars roll in
and watch all the couples fog up their cars
And write on the windows their fingerprint hearts.
Then they slowly would drive home long after midnight

I grew up in a house next to the Drive-In
Erected and dreamed in 1953
From summer to summer, picture on picture
We’d sit up on the rooftop and watch with no sound
But the silence never mattered that much to me

Then somebody said that they went and sold the Drive-In
And that the cranes would come and take them silver
screens away
They’re planning on paving a parking lot plaza
Well, why do we need one if every town has one?
and my Dad said there was no damn use to fight it

Most of the town forgot there was a Drive-In
most of the hearts that were drawn did fade away
but the movies did move me, the stars were our ceiling
So the people with romance and the people with feeling
Still think about that Drive-In everyday
When they’re traveling by that plaza on their way

HAPPY WHERE I AM on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

Used to see this old stray dog almost everyday
He’d do his deed right by my house and then be on his way
One time I brought him some real food
and asked him if he’d stay
But he blankly stared at me as if to say
“No, I’ve gotta go but if I could I’d shake your hand…
I’m happy where I am

It was a sweltering summer day, I mean a mean heat
So I threw my dirty blanket on the city beach
A guy I know invited me on his new yacht
For steak tartar and crme brulee and top shelf scotch
And there were babies crying, loud radios
and castles made of sand
I’m happy where I am

He wore a dark blue jacket and polyester gray pants
And a clip on tie with his hair greased back
He was the security guard at the parking lot
at the shopping mall
But he never looked down and nothing could stick
to him at all
He’d see all them stressed out people faking schemes
and breaking plans
Thinking… “I’m happy where I am”

BIRTHDAY SONG on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

One day you’ll need someone to dress you
You’ll be spilling food down on your face
The next a priest will God bless you
And it won’t mean that you sneezed
But the time in between
Is lost like a dream
Your melancholy mood comes too late
So pick that old ass of yours
Up off the floor
For tonight we celebrate

And the years go by
And we don’t know where they went
We just let them fly
‘Cause they were all heaven sent
We’re on borrowed time
And we still owe half the rent
For soaking up the sunshine
‘Til we’re dead gone
We will laugh until we drop
Here’s your birthday song
May your party never stop
Singing on and on
We go stumbling down the block
Soaking up the good wine

We’re covered in silver confetti
There’s bottles all over the floor
Just because your bank account’s empty
It don’t mean that you’re poor
The nights just like this
Make me feel like I’m rich
Like the fire still burns in my core
So raise that old glass of yours
Up towards the sky
We’re not counting anymore

EVER SINCE THE DAY on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

When the stranger came to town
We treated him with hate
He rubbed it right back in our face
So two teenage boys would race
For a twenty dollar bet
And to claim who would be great

So we all skipped our last class
To see our hero face the fool
Start their engines, press the gas
Lord, may our hero make it through
This chilly autumn day
And they sky all black and blue

But he last thing that we saw
Ws our hero drive right off the hill
His car went rolling into flames
He gave his life away
For a twenty dollar bet
And to sanctify his fate

As we all were walking home
Shell-shocked and immune
We kicked dirt up with our shoes
There was nothing else to do
And ever since the day
We’ve never been the same
Hollow and afraid
Ever since the day

ME AND MY BLUE WATER on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

Summer rules the sky tonight
His wistful eyes look out of sight
Beyond the streets, upon the town
That holds his people down
And never free
Nervously she looks him down
Walks ten paces, turns around
Says, “You seldom love me,
but you’ll never leave me…
Death is your decree…” so you see
In the morning when she wakes
I will be gone

Blue water’s moving
Higher than heaven

So the circus cut through town today
Amazed the children and seized the gray
and empty circles spinning slowly
only for awhile, and we smiled
So the wild eyed boy grew wider than a truck and trecked off for the city’s
Shitty smells and sloppy streets
Where evil ends all meet
Proud defeat
In the morning when she wakes
I will be gone

And it was ever still

STARLIGHT on Chris Trapper: Songs From The Drive-In

The biker gang’s asleep now
at the midnight motel six
And I’m walking to the doughnut shop
to get my late night fix
I’m halfway across the country
feeling like I need to cry
Jealous of your pillow,
and the starlight by your side

The guy who wipes the counter says
he works the overnight
Me, I’m a singer in a traveling band,
always playing in the lights
He said, “That must be such a thrill”
but I don’t feel satisfied
I say I miss my girl at home
and the starlight by her side

She’s the kind of girl who’ll feed
the hunger in your soul
And pick your broken pieces up
and try and make you whole
When she walks into a crowded room,
you will know she has arrived
‘Cause her dress should be arrested
and there’s starlight by her side

But the road we take could turn
down the desert of despair
I’ve told her time and time again,
but she insists she does not care
‘Cause lovers live through fire and war
the truest ones survive
Even on the darkest night,
she got starlight by her side

So a doughnut and a coffee
for a dollar and fifty cents
And therapy thrown in for free
that’s the best my money’s spent
And as I walked back to the Motel six,
I seen a vision of my bride
Dancing in the reception hall
with starlight by her side

OPENING TIME on Opening Time

I'm just a thought in the back of your mind
I watch you as you drive away
You don't look back as I'm waving goodbye
Seems like I'm always asking why

And hey, it's okay, now it's opening time
Butterflies and beer cans and blues on my mind
And I say yeah
Yeah, I feel like I would rather die

And wasted away, long by opening time
I stumble up on stage as I kiss you goodbye
And I say yeah
Yeah, I hope that you're alright to drive

Sometimes I feel like I'm the salt on your soul
Or what's left over in your cereal bowl
Or like cheap coffee that's turning too cold
The taste of waste is hard to hold

And hey, it's okay, now it's opening time
Butterflies and beer cans and blues on my mind
And I say yeah
Yeah, I feel like I would rather die

And wasted away, long by opening time
I stumble up on stage as I kiss you goodbye
And I say yeah
Yeah, I hope that you're alright to drive

And don't you dare try to act
Like you don't care I say
I've got my hands in the air
You just stare all your love gone dry

And wasted away, long by opening time
I stumble up on stage as I kiss you goodbye
And I say yeah
Yeah, I hope that you're alright to drive

And I say yeah
Yeah, I hope that you're alright to drive

MILLIONAIRE on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Opening Time

Well I'm tired of getting ripped off
Taking minimum wage from a boss who got brains that are soft
And I'm tired of mopping the floor counting my drawer
I get my check and wonder what did I work for
I burnt out my body, I freeze dried my brain
In a polyester uniform and grease stains
Now I need to find a dream or a scheme
Or the courage just to jump off the train

'Cause I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire
I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire

How long can you live on macaroni and cheese
How long can you live with the holes in the knees of your jeans
How many times do you jump start your car
Before you see junk yard's closer than a drink at the bar

When I was a kid
I had lemonade stand
I made two dollars
But it felt like fifty grand
I had my own place
Worked at my own pace
And there was no heavy lifting
And no sweat on my face

Now I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire
I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire

...Ever since I started working
...Every single day in my life has been worse than the day before it

I want to be the American Dream
I want to learn the handshakes
Smile while I'm back stabbing
I want a blonde in a black limosine
Who's drinking Don Perignon
And using me for my money
Makes the world go around
But you never never hear the awful sond
Of the devil sucking your soul
Now your head is a wreck and your heart is a hole

And I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire
I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire

I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire
I've got to find a way, someday, someday
To be a millionaire

ALL I WANTED on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)

All I wanted was everything
My sad attraction, a wedding ring
And a long lost lady in a long black dress
Well, her succumbing was my success

All I wanted was everything
All I wanted was everything

She sucked the lust from my fingertips
I licked the love from her luscious lips
A burning sign at a cheap motel
We shook that bed 'til the mirrors fell

All I wanted was everything
All I wanted was everything

You see what you want but you take what you get
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
See what you want but you take what you get
'Till it's all gone

You see what you want but you take what you get
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
You dream it, you speak it, you finally seek it
And it's all gone

Two months later was when we'd meet
In a supermarket with four cold feet
To lose a lover but gain a friend
Will never feel this good again

All I wanted was everything
All I wanted was everything

You see what you want but you take what you get
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
See what you want but you take what you get
'Till it's all gone

You see what you want but you take what you get
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
You dream it, you speak it, you finally seek it
And it's all gone

You see what you want but you take what you get
...All I wanted
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
...All I wanted
See what you want but you take what you get
...All I wanted
'Till it's all gone
...All I wanted

You see what you want but you take what you get
...All I wanted
You don't know what you want but you ain't got it yet
...All I wanted
You dream it, you speak it, you finally seek it
...All I wanted

WHO WE ARE on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Opening Time

The scene's out of hand at the rock and roll stand
Kick our way through the crowd to see a band that we can't stand
The singer thinks he's a superstar

Kick our way to the exit, spill out on the side street
Cut through the line for a club called The Elite
As we were driving away they were laughing at our car

I'm tired of looking for love on the floor of a dance club
The bottom of the bottle or the thrill of a new drug
So my friend suggested a cool new coffee bar

But the coffee house scene looks like Halloween
And look there's Elvira and there's Mr. Clean
Yeah, it leaves me thinking that they just try too hard

But it's okay, it's okay
We've come a long, long way
But that's not who we are
That's not who we are
That's not who we, who we are

Yeah, the road to the sea used to come easily to me
But now it seems I've hit a coffin in my memory
We wind up parked here laughing at the stars

But the times, Marie, I remember the best
Are these nights when we realize we're not like all the rest
When we're reminded, they never drive this far

It's okay, it's okay
We've come a long, long way
But that's not who we are
...Who we are
That's not who we are
...Who we are
That's not who we, who we are
...Who we are

Who we are
Who we are
Who we are
Who we are

I've been looking for you on the outside
You've been staying in
I've been searching for you at the wrong times
And I just can't win
But I try to find you
I try to find you

You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I am melting away
You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I melt away

I'll be singing your praises on stages
WIll you be talking mine
I'll be filling my diary pages
About a love divine
That shines on down
That shines on down

You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I am melting away
You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I melt away

And I melt away
I melt away

You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I am melting away
You have left the most beautiful hand-print
And I melt away

Hey...
Melt away
Hey...
Melt away
Hey...
Melt away

WAITING, WATCHING, WISHING on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)

Well here we go again
Looking for a ride
Got a smile to hide
All the rain in my eyes
And your bags are full with loving goodbyes

I don't care if I never grow up
Don't want to shrink in a suit
Don't want live just to suck someones bones dry
I'd rather die

Each time I think back to my home town
And my sad skinny self standing around
Waiting, watching, wishing for something to happen

I used to dream about a girl like you
Hair dyed black and eyes jet blue
Desperately trying and searching for something fantastic

We've been here before
Stood up at the door
Holding secrets we'd never say
Hey, don't hang your head
Feel the breeze instead
Fear no shadow, don't feel no shame

All it took was one punch in the face
To make me want to steal the guys car in the first place
The grass on the suburban lawns never looked so black

Crack in the window
Slip in through the door
Hand me your hair-pin
Your knees to the floor
Head to the highway
Never turning back
We're never turning back
We're never turning back
We're never turning back
We're never turning back

Car by car
And line by line
One day you'll find your place
And I'll find mine
In a new time
In a strange new place
Get up, get up, get down
On and on and on we go
We got no radio
Singing songs we know
For miles and miles on open road
Get up, get up, let's go

We've been here before
Stood up at the door
Holding secrets we'd never say
Hey, don't hang your head
Feel the breeze instead
Fear no shadow, don't feel no shame

...Waiting, watching, wishing for something
Get up, get up, get down
...Waiting, watching, wishing for something
Get up, get up, get down
...Waiting, watching, wishing for something
Get up, get up, get down
...Waiting, watching, wishing for something
Get up, get up, get down

All my love is all I have to give to you this morning
Last nights dream is cast to sea
It's you who leaves me longing

Take me home to where I'm whole
You say, Well that's never easy
But all the wine will change your mind
I say, Well let's not pretend that it does
Let's not pretend what it does

All my love is all I have to give to you this morning
Last nights dream is cast to sea
It's you who leaves me longing

Break my fall and take me all the way
From evening to morning
But when you sleep so worry free
And I, I just can't pretend that I am
I just can't pretend who I am

All my love is all I have to give to you this morning
Last nights dream is cast to sea
It's you who leaves me longing

Never wanted to be your favorite son
Never thought I would be anyone
Used to climb up a tree to hide from the town
Another old neighborhood that they're bowling down

If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away

You said you'd watch my back out on the field
You finally got your chance to prove your word was real
But then I saw your face up in the stands
Stealing my helmet and shoes and my shoulder pads

If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away

And I won't look back
And I won't look down
And I won't need prayers from you

If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away
If you could see me fading away

Half my life is regret and the other half I forget
I'm awlays busy closing curtains in my brain
So I was strolling by a night club when a couple came out of the shadows
It was a rich mand and a girl I thought I knew

Well hello Marie, yes it's good to see you've got someone new
And he looks so good like he's never felt no rain
He wears the crown of this tinsel town like he owns the day
For me, I'll just stay in the alleyways and cry, over you

Hey man, would you rather give me a second with the lady I once leaned on
Bless his heart, I thought he'd never turn away
But she was caught up in her own coolness and I was fading to the darkness
Of my overcoat and my lonesome serenade

Well hello Marie, I don't know Marie, if he's good for you
'Cause he's not like me and you cannot see his shame
And he wears the crown of this tinsel town like he owns the day
For me, I'll just stay in the alleyways and cry, over you

Well hello Marie, yes it's good to see you've got someone new
And he looks so good like he's never felt no rain
And he wears the crown of this tinsel town like he owns the day
For me, I'll just stay in the alleyways and cry, over you

Over you
Over you
Over you

Over you
Over you

SMALLTOWN GEEK on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Opening Time

Hey, there's a song I love on the radio
Sneak it in my bedroom
'Cause there's been aweful drought in this mean old house
I think it's going to blow soon

Been waiting for so long
Been waiting for so long
To escape
Any way that you can
To escape
Any way that you can

And hey, there's a silver screen
And a silent dream
One day it's going to come true
But these things you never speak
If you're a small town geek
With nothing to hold onto

I've been waiting for so long
Been waiting for so long
To escape
Any way that you can
To escape
Any way that you can

Bury your rage
Scrape up your change
To escape
Any way that you can
To escape
Any way that you can

FRATHOUSE JOE on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Opening Time

You are stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now

Well this is the story about a guy named Joe
Brings the party wherever he goes
High fives through the door, his friends say, Go, Joe, Go
Puts the keg in the kitchen sink then he brags to his friends how his armpits stink
Says Weekends are no time to think, No, no, no
He says, No, no, no

Well he's the guy with the backwards baseball cap
Loves his beer and he loves his frat
He says Hey Hey, Where's my girlfriend at
And she's in the next room
Talking with her circle of friends
They were pointing and laughing at him
So he raised his fist and he lost his shit
And boom, boom, boom

His girlfriend said that his dick was little
Now all of the sudden he's stuck
In the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Well you are stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now

Well Joe, you shouldn't have lost your cool
Now there's no more dorm and there's no more school
And football season's over for you
You're life's through, through, through

And where are all your friends when you need them
Never underestimate the power of the female
Hope you like your new roomate in jail
'Cause he likes you...

Are stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
You are stuck in the middle of it now
...Stuck in the middle of it now
Stuck in the middle of it now

MIRACLE on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Opening Time

You never see what you meant to see
It's not supposed to be that way
You never ever ever take the time of day

See there's miracles within your grasp
But that dove will fly away the moment gone
The truth impossible to find

It happens to me all the time
Like the stars on the sea
And the storms in the sky

A bridge was built in a silent room
By candle light on a stormy night
Your shadow moved like music on the wall

Like a miracle that tapped your back
Your turned around and heard the sound
But the ghost was gone and you didn't even try

It happens to me all the time
Like the stars on the sea
And the storms in the sky

Keep what you want in your soul
Keep what you hold in your soul
'Till it's gone
Keep what you hold

You never say what you meant to say
It's not supposed to be that way
You never never ever ever take the time of day

So I love you so
The only love I know
I was cynical towards miracles
'Till I realized you could lift me with your eyes

It happens to me all the time
Like the stars on the sea
And the storms in the sky

It happens to me all the time
Like the stars on the sea
And the storms in the sky

ONE SUMMER DAY REMIX (HIDDEN) on Opening Time

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars and remixed on Opening Time

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

Too much joy and not enough laughter
All the crap that came came after me
In a rolling motorcade that's why I couldn't stay
So you say you can't believe me now
Have another drink and believe me anyhow
'Cause when your life falls all to pieces, you've got to rearrange

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

Well, I may have looked awkward but I know how to dance
And that left an imprint on her underpants
In the back of her father's car on a Friday night in June
Yeah, the words we spoke we thought were true
Gave me your heart and I gave it back to you
Why you crying Mary Jane?
I never swore that I wouldn't change

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

I never thought that I would see you rolling so, so low, so low
I never thought that I would see you moving so slow, so slow

The day I die is the day that I see my life flash before my eyes stop the rewind
Find the day that I turned eighteen it was a day that I never knew
'Cause I got too drunk to even see all the truth that was spewing out of me
In the bathroom all night long
Swore I'd never drink again

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

One summer day
I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday
Take me back there someday

DRUNK IS BETTER THAN DEAD on Malcom In The Middle

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars

A little drunk is better than dead
When they’re strapping you down inside your own head
So you hang out with the man on the moon
But why does the morning have to come too soon?

When you get stuck down deep in bad traffic
All your radio is picking up is cheap static
So you reach beneath your front seat
For the taste of something sweet

Well, just remember what the drowning man said
A little drunk is better than dead

Before you put the gun to your head
Remember what the drowning man said
A little drunk, A little drunk is better than dead

A little drunk is better than dead
When you’re tripping down the path that you were led
When your ass has been slapped by too many doors
And you think of all the good things you can’t afford
You can’t find a good woman can’t find a good job
You look in the mirror and all you see is a slob
You just can’t swallow all the shit you’ve been fed
Been punched in the eye so much you only see red

But before you put that gun to your head
A little drunk is better than dead

Remember what the drowning man said
Before you put the gun to your head
A little drunk, A little drunk is better than dead

A little lost is better than found
When you always find your hopes just smashed on the ground
But someone’s always there to lend you a hand
But too late you’re already neck deep in quick sand
And you’re sprawled out on some floor
Some one call for help
Is he alive? We’re not sure
Everybody’s screaming
Everyone’s in a panic
But you, your face is peaceful like it’s plastic
And as they roll him away on the stretcher
We knew that he’d be drunk forever
I guess a little drunk is better

Before you put the gun to your head
Remember what the drowning man said
A little drunk, A little drunk is better than dead
A little drunk, A little drunk is better than dead

ANY LITTLE TOWN on Stop Handgun Violence

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars

Everytime you smile
It takes me quite a while to recover
And everytime you cry
I find I'm searching for the rock I can crawl under

This could be any little town
There must be mountains crumbling somewhere
If I could take you there
I'd hold you 'till we vanish into thin air

It's crazy how I love you
This could be any little town
...Sane when she sees me
This could be any little town
...Insane so she frees me
This could be any little town
...Sacred and easy

So I went running up the street
Almost forgot that I had feet searching for something
Just peeling out my crazy eyes
Feeling the full affect of lies left me with nothing

Oh, someone said to me today
Son, you'll run your life away dancing and dreaming
But, I could hear beneath the haze
Of this hopeless lifeless days his heart was screaming

It's crazy how I’ve run thru you
Yes it's crazy how I've run thru you
This could be any little town
...Sane when she sees me
This could be any little town
...Insane so she frees me
This could be any little town
...Sacred and easy

So it might take a lot of time
I might be last in a long line
Of men to love you
Should I kick and twist and scream
Or could I just lay back and dream and think of summer

Oh, there'd be no one else around
Just you and I and the sound of us breathing together
Stuck in this crumbling little town
We'd be happy just to lie down there forever

It's crazy how I love you
Yes it's crazy how I love you
How I love you
How I love you
Yes it’s true
...Any little town
...Sane when she sees me
This could be any little town
...Insane so she frees me
This could be any little town
...Sacred and easy

Oh, This could be any little town
...Sane when she sees me
Oh, This could be any little town
...

BAD SNEAKERS on Me, Myself & Irene

Written by Steely Dan

Five names that I can hardly stand to hear
Including yours and mine
And one more chimp who isn't here
I can see the ladies talking
How the times are getting hard
And that fieresome excavation on Magnolia Blvd

Yes, I'm going insane
And I'm laughing at the frozen rain
Well I'm so alone
Honey, when they gonna send me home

Bad sneakers and I need a Pia Colada my friend
Stomping on the avenue
By Radio City with a transistor
And a large sum of money to spend

You fellow
You tearing up the street
You wear that white tuxedo
How you gonna beat the heat

Do you take me for a fool
Do you think that I don't see
That ditch out in the valley
That they're digging just for me

Yes I'm going insane
And I'm laughing at the frozen rain
Well I'm so alone
Honey, when they gonna send me home

Bad sneakers and I need a Pia Colada my friend
Stomping on the avenue
By Radio City with a transistor
And a large sum of money to spend

Yes, I'm going insane
Yes, I'm laughing at the frozen rain
I feel like I'm so alone

CINDERELLA on After The Party

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)

My father spent his days working on the outside
Breaking his back to put cloths on mine
When I think of all, all of my heros
He is the first one that comes to my mind, my mind

My mother filled my head with beautiful day dreams
Someday you'll be a king, or the president
You know somedays, I still believe her
But today I’m too busy trying to scrape up my rent

Well, come on Cinderella
Fold you're umbrella
And feel the rain
'Cause it ain't so strange

And I got a brother who’s a sinner
He grows a strange crop in his backyard
When the cops come and take him away
Would they even care that
He taught his little brother how to play his guitar?

Well, come on Cinderella
Fold you're umbrella
And feel the rain
'Cause it ain't so strange

Well, come on Cinderella
Fold you're umbrella
And feel the rain
'Cause it ain't so strange

TOO MUCH PRIDE on After The Party

Well, darling I see you
From across the room
And men cling to you
Like soup to a spoon

But you don't look hungry
And they wont feel full
They roll in your thunder
But I never will

'Cause I've got too much pride
To stand here in this line for you

Darling I agree
That men are pigs
And beauty contests
They’re all rigged

So smash all your mirrors
And look into me
'Cause you're the most beautiful thing
That I'll never see

'Cause I've got too much pride
To stand here in this line for you
Yes I do
Yes I do
Yes I do
Yeah, Yes I do

Summer in the driving rain
I'll never see your face again
The only thing I wish to say
I love you always

Summer in the driving rain
I'll never see your face again
The only thing I wish to say
I love you always

Summer in the driving rain
I'll never see your face again
The only thing I wish to say
I love you always

Hey, come this May
We’ll be running in the sun again
Your time will come

You’re just a young broken heart
Been out sleeping in the yard
How could you be so dumb?

All we losers stand in line
Just waiting for our time
Broken angel take that plane
And finger paint the sky

‘Til everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines

Old broken clock
Haven’t heard your old tick-tocking
For much too long

And lonely jukebox
In the corner of the nightclub
And I need your song

All we losers stand in line
Just waiting for our time
Broken angel take that plane
And finger paint the sky

‘Til everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines

MOVING TARGET on After The Party

I know it's late
But I needed to talk to someone
I've been thinking that
What if we never come back?

Wipe off your cheek
Roll down you're window and speak
Words won’t break glass
What if we never come back?
What if we never come back?

Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me
Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me

I know talk is cheap
But I needed something to help me to sleep
I've no ties, no past
This time I'm leaving at last
I've been thinking that

Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me
Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me

What if we never come back?
What if we never come back?

Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me
Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me, yeah

Aim if you want
But you'll never hit a moving target like me

MEET ME ON MAIN STREET on After The Party

Written by Chris Trapper

There must be some reason why she's letting me go
She says it's the season but I know she knows
That there's spaces between us where no river flows
I wish I could erase her like a change of my cloths

And in an instant this all could end
So lets drink to good fortune
Here's to my friends
'Cause friendships worth much more than the money we spend
And money's worth nothing
Let's not pretend

Meet me on main street
Ducking from the police
Strange the pain is so sweet
It's complete
It's complete
It's complete

I put on my red coat and walk out the door
I'm not the same person that I was before
And yes I feel bitter, yes I feel sore
But she was just a young kid who drifted ashore

Meet me on main street
Ducking from the police
Strange the pain is so sweet
It's complete
It's complete
It's complete

Meet me on main street
Ducking from the police
Strange the pain is so sweet
It's complete
It's complete
It's complete

MINNESOTA on After The Party

I made Minnesota my home tonight
It's not like the picture in my mind
'Cause I was so alone it killed tonight
I'd tell any soul.. if I could find one

'Cause I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe

I've been burning down all my yesterdays
I can't stick around to see the smoke
'Cause we’re on our way, and we don’t care where
There’s no time to sit around and mope

'Cause I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe

I feel alright it's a Minnesota night
You’ve got nothing left to show me but you’re smile
Stars so bright on this Minnesota night
Can we cut the conversation for a little while?

So please don't say that you don't know how
'Cause if you can talk then you can sing
So lets run away lovely Laura Leigh
And won't you take this diamond ring

'Cause I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe
I want to believe her
I want to believe

I feel alright it's a Minnesota night
You've got nothing left to show me but your smile
Stars so bright on this Minnesota night
Can we cut the conversation for a little while?

BACK TO THE PARTY on After The Party

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)

Boy and girl you're not the same anymore
The boy strolls in and makes the girl hold the door
She slipped me a party smile
That I could see thru
I got nothing to lose
Mary what's happening with you

So Mary said lets go get some fresh air
My eyes cut to him, she said "Don't worry he'd never care"
So we left that crowd behind and got lost in our lust
Shook off the dust
Mary what's happening to us?

In the middle of the pouring rain she said
"I'm going to leave him and he'll never see me again"
I said "but you never really know"
We didn't build this city, we didn't paint this town
Seems like we spend half our lives running around
Wanting somewhere else to go

Back to the party after an hour or two
Gone that long and the boy never knew
'Til he looked down and found grass stains on her knees
Now he's chasing me up the street!
Mary what's happening, happening to me?
What's happening, happening to me?

In the middle of the pouring rain she said
"I'm going to leave him and he'll never see me again"
I said "but you never really know"
We didn't build this city, we didn't paint this town
Seems like we spend half our lives standing around
Wanting somewhere else to go

Well I see your face
Put on the wrong way
If you want to leave this place
Walk home with me the long way

Boy and girl you're not the same anymore
Boy and girl you're not the same anymore
Boy and girl you're not the same anymore

SOFKURI'S ROOM on After The Party

I want to be back in Sofkuri's room
Where the candlelight's timeless
She sits on the corner of her bed looking at you
Thru eyes part coal and part diamond

And I long to feel Sofkuri move
Smooth like a stream in the forest
'Cause I feel stiff like the city in heat
May the road be burning before us

She's sticking to me like the salt from the sea
Sleeping on the shore
In my winter coat pocket I found a key to her door
It said I'll love you more

And I swear I felt Sofkuri's soul
Climb into mine
And hide it inside a glass of red wine
And sing to me
Mystery is everything
Mystery is everything
Mystery is everything
Mystery is everything

She's sticking to me like the salt from the sea
Sleeping on the shore
In my winter coat pocket I found a key to her door
It said I'll love you more
You more
You more

CASH on After The Party

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on After The Party

So give us cash 'cause we're the merchant and the maker and marine corps
And we're the outcast who's got no team to root for
And we're the dreamers who built the world a new door
And we're the fast man who robs himself a liquor store

Sacred angel
Look and see
Are we living like we ought to be?
Or are we loathsome?
But aren't we true?
I guess we're both sometimes
Just like you

"Built to last" said the used car salesman to the fool
He can manipulate a mind like a hand tool
In his mind in his line of work you live by one rule
You laugh at the world first before the world laughs at you

Sacred angel
Look and see
Are we living like we ought to be?
Or are we loathsome?
But aren't we true?
I guess we're both sometimes
Just like you

Strolling to the water with the devil's only daughter
I said "can you show me something that I don't know?"
So she set herself on fire in a burst of evil laughter
Might be the last fantastic thing I'll ever see

I think I'm gonna crash if I keep going down
The path that I'm going down
Going too fast and not showing signs of slowing down
Who the hell knows I might go and do it purposely
And laugh at the world first before the world laughs at me

Sacred angel
Look and see
Are we living like we ought to be?
Or are we loathsome?
But aren't we true?
I guess we're both sometimes
Just like you
...Just like you

Sacred angel
Look and see
...Just like you
Are we living like we ought to be?
...Just like you
Or are we loathsome?
But aren't we true?
...Just like you
I guess we're both sometimes
Just like you
...Just like you

CADILLAC on After The Party

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on After The Party

So she went to the bar on the corner
With some friends who were buried alive
And a man leaned over to tell her
That her luck had finally arrived
Said he drove a Cadillac
They could sneak out thru the crack
And he’d never bring her back here again

Watched her finger twirl a circle in her drink
If you think too much, then you’ll never decide
You end up like an ice cube sinking down to the bottom
So you do what you must to survive
So she walked out by his side
To strange shadows in the night
Disappeared in the streetlights and were gone

And Here I am
And Here I am

"So where's it parked," she said
"We've walked so far and I'm getting so tired"
And he looked like a crook who'd just been caught
He said "I don't own no Cadillac
Don't even own a paper sack
To carry the confidence that I lack and my lies"

So she said "You know I just can't believe this"
He said "Go ahead, just leave, I understand"
But instead she rested his head on her shoulder
But how could he love her with nothing to give her
But empty pockets and a crooked man?
Well she said "You can love me with your hands
You can love me with your eyes
You can love me with your voice and your lies"

And here I am
And here I am
And here I am
And here I am...

EVERYTHING SHINES on There's Something About Mary

Hey, come this May
We’ll be running in the sun again
Your time will come

You're just a young broken heart
Been out sleeping in the yard
How could you be so dumb?

All we losers stand in line
Just waiting for our time
Broken angel take that plane
And finger paint the sky

'Till everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines

Old broken clock
Haven't heard your old tick-tocking
Now for much too long

And lonely jukebox
In the corner of a nightclub
And I need your song

All we losers stand in line
Just waiting for our time
Broken angel take that plane
And finger paint the sky

'Till everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines
Everything shines

CROSS TOWN CAF on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)

I used to be a baker at the Cross Town Caf
...Man, what a long day
...Man, what a long day
They let me go because I forgot the coconut flakes
...How much can you take
...How much can you take, I say

But I found my way home
Yes I did
I found my way home
Yes I did

Then they send you off to college where they teach you how to think
...Counting the drinks
...Counting the drinks
Grafhitti on the wall, something's growing in the sink
...Over the brink
...Over the brink, I say

But I found my way home
Yes I did
I found my way home
Yes I did

I know you
You know me
You've worn my shoes
I've kissed your feet

And of course I met a girl and I knew she'd break my heart
...Knew it from the start
...Knew it from the start
They can steal your fire but they'd never find the spark
...Show it in the dark
...Show it in the dark sometimes

To find my way home
Yes I did
I found my way home
Yes I did

Yes I did
Yes I did

Yes I did
Yes I did

TONIGHT on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper

I am lying on my back
Counting the stars on my ceiling
I hear footsteps and cars
And a radio singing
The street talk don't stop
Where the sirens start an argument with china town

And there's a crack under my door
That lets in the light from the hallway
Seeps in the passion of the night like a satin red fog
It always follows me home
It's always calling me to the street again

Said the next time that the parade passes by
I won't be sleeping
Oh the next time that the parade passes by
I won't be sleeping

Well the love of my life
Has just gone and left me
Like a loser leaves a fight
With no sympathy from the crowd
I did not walk away proud
Came home and sat down on my bed
And cried out loud

Said the next time that the parade passes by
I won't be sleeping
Oh the next time that the parade passes by
I won't be sleeping

Well tonight is just one night in a lifetime of night times
Well tonight is just one night in a lifetime of night times
Well tonight is just one night in a lifetime of night times
Well tonight is just one night in a lifetime of night times

ANY LITTLE TOWN on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Tonight

This could be any little town
There must be mountains crumbling somewhere
And I've been sinking in your face
Been thinking that this race is over

Oh you see, everytime you smile
It takes me quite a while to recover
And every time you cry
I find I'm searching for the rock I can crawl under

It's crazy how I love you
Yes it's true

So I went running up the street
Almost forgot that I had feet searching for something
Just peeling out my crazy eyes
Feeling the full affect of lies left me with nothing

Oh, someone said to me today
Son, you'll run your life away dancing and dreaming
But, I could hear beneath the haze
Of his hopeless lifeless days his heart was screaming

It's crazy how I’ve run thru you
Yes it's true
...Sane when she sees me
...Insane so she frees me
...Sacred and easy

So it might take a lot of time
I might be last in a long line
Of men to love you
So should I kick and twist and scream
Or could I just lay back and dream and think of summer

Oh, there'd be no one else around
Just you and I and the sound of us breathing together
Stuck in this crumbling little town
We'd be happy just to lie down there forever

It's crazy how I love you
How I love you
How I love you
Yes it’s true
...Sane when she sees me
...Insane so she frees me
...Sacred and easy

This could be any little town
...Sane when she sees me
This could be any little town
...Insane so she frees me
This could be any little town
...Sacred and easy

Oh, This could be any little town
...Sane when she sees me

OCEAN VIEW on Tonight

So you don't like the way you're life's been going
You stand before me with defeat
In your silver studded costume that got rained on
I can't console you
I don't know how

But if I found myself an ocean view
I'd bring it home to you, to you
If I could find myself an ocean view
I'd bring it home to you, to you, to you
Turn off the T.V.
Look deep inside me

So a silver rope fell down from the ceiling
We've got to climb out
Before it's too late
Because we're all so afraid we're growing older
And going nowhere
Don't wait

And if I found myself an ocean view
I'd bring it home to you, to you
If I can find myself an ocean view
I'd bring it home to you, to you, to you
Turn off the T.V.
Go find the real thing

Turn off the T.V.
You can have the real thing
Turn off the T.V.
You can have the real thing

COUNTING THE MINUTES on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Tonight

Sometimes I feel like a cat stuck up in a tree
Got a whole crowd of people looking up at me
Wondering how to get me down
Oh I could come down
Be a part of the crowd, the scene, the clown
The ghost that can't get off the merry-go-round
Or I could sit right here

Counting the minutes
Counting the hours
Counting the minutes
Counting the hours

Sometimes I feel like a rat running in a wheel
Running and running and running
But man, what's the deal
I'm not getting anywhere
It's not fair that my brain is the size of a pea
And I've got 1 foot in the gutter
And another in a trash heap
And roll-on in my hair

Counting the minutes
Counting the miles
Counting the minutes
Counting the miles

Sometimes I feel like a toad in the middle of the road
There's a truck coming at me and there's two ways to go
But there's no time to decide
I don't mind being small in a world that's tall
And mean and lean and built by machines
It ain't easy being green

Counting the minutes
Flipping the coin
Counting the minutes
Flipping the coin

Counting the minutes
Flipping the coin
Counting the minutes
Flipping the coin

I'M A FOOL (AND THAT'S OK) on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Tonight

Well there's nothing that you can't buy in L.A.
Like an all night love scene server your way
By a silicon angel or a big strong tool

And I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool to feel this way
I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool, and that's o.k.

And there's nothing that you won't see in New York
I swear a guy tried to rob me with a plastic fork
You've got dressed up politicians and abandoned schools

And I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool to feel this way
I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool, but that's o.k.

'Cause all I want, all I want
'Cause all I want, all I want
Is one thing that's true
I want to walk with you
Just like we used to do

So I'm taking my vacation down in Buffalo
Where the houses are plastic, where the people walk slow
So if you don't know football or burnt out dreams

And I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool, but that's home to me
I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool, but that's home to me
I'm a fool, I'm a fool, I'm a fool, but that's home to me
That's home to me
That's home to me
That's home to me

MEET ME AT THE FAIR on Tonight

Written by Chris Trapper

I've got cotton candy lips
Salt water taffy smile
I'm blowing all my money
But I'm going out in style
I start skipping down the street
'Cause I smell it in the air
Yeah I was, and I am, and I will always be a square

Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair

'Cause I don't care what they think
Yeah, I'm doing fine
They can strip away my skin
But they can never get inside
Yeah, I've come alive
The moment you arrive
And the lights, and the popcorn
And the people, and the rides

Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair

And tomorrow
If you see her
Send her love
From me
'Cause I've been rolling
Down this river
Gently to the sea
You see
Yeah, Yeah

See it's aways been the same
You can never win the games
But if you're cool you shrug you're shoulders
And you win just the same
So roll the ball with me
And I'll shoot the town with you
We'll jump ten feet high
At the poppable baloon

Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair

Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair
Meet me at the fair

ME on Meet Me At The Fair

Well I thought about you all last night
I wonder if the time is right to tell you
I was lying in my room
And I looked up at the moon
And I saw your smile

So then I took off all my clothes
My body froze for just a moment
Then it melted
And I felt it so damn deep
I didn't think I'd ever get to sleep again

Feels like the warm summer rain
Pouring down on me
Opening, covering, lovingly, coloring me
Me...

So I pictured you all silky and blue,
All soft and strong and sensual and crazy
Grabbed the lotion at my side
And I took it for a ride it won't forget

'Cause you see the world outside is angry
Man, they'll kill you for a dollar
Or just to hear you scream
And if it's not okay to dream
Why don't you take that gun
And just shoot me in the heart
In the heart
In the heart
In the heart

Feels like the warm summer rain
Pouring down on me
Opening, covering, lovingly, coloring me
Me...

LACK OF MOTION on Meet Me At The Fair

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Meet Me At The Fair

Well, I don't laugh that much anymore
I got too many troubles knocking at my door
But it'd be too easy to say, "Life sucks"

So whenever I feel down
I get dressed up in a nice tight skirt
And high-heel pumps
And I strut past the guys at the fire hall

'Cause they'll never see you fall
In a lack of motion
Won't see anything at all
In a lack of motion

There's this girl down the street that I know
She spends half her nights watching picture shows
She thinks
That life should be like a dream

But late last night her car broke down
In the middle of the forest
There was no one around
She had no clue what to do or who to call

I said they'll never see you fall
In a lack of motion
Won't see anything at all
In a lack of motion

So then she picks me up in a Lincoln Continental
I said, "Is that brand new or is that a rental?"
When she said it's stolen
That's when she stole my heart

She said we got no time for getting sentimental
We got too many goals
So much potential
Don't want to end up another picture on the wall

And I don't care who you used to be
And I don't care what you're gonna be
Somebody tell me who they are

Shakespeare and I just signed a deal
Sped like the devil at the wheel
'Cause life will pass you by
Like the tail lights of a speeding car

Well, my once best friend became a businessman
He wears a basic blue suit and a twelve month tan
His imagination's about as wide as his T.V.

You see, he never had the guts to do his own thing
He'd mouth the words but he'd never sing
Let freedom ring at the local shopping mall

And they'll never see you fall
In a lack of motion
Won't see anything at all
In a lack of motion

Well my Father said son you'd better live your dream
I don't think he did so himself it seems
Unless his dream was bringing up a brat like me

Well he said "Now I don't care if you're a millionaire
Or if you're sleeping in a box in the street somewhere
Just love each step you make and take 'em standing tall."

And they'll never see you fall...

SINKING IN IT on Meet Me At The Fair

You wanted gold
Much more than you would admit
But somebody closed the door
And the air got too thick

Now you're sinking in it
You're sinking in it now

You thought you'd take the world
With one magic trick
But he left you choking on
Your silver lipstick

Now you're sinking in it
You're sinking in it now

Don't tell me
Please don't tell me
That your back was on the floor
Don't tell me
Please don't tell me
Anymore

Will you run away with me
Will you run away
Will you run away with me
Will you run away

And I wanted fame so bad
I'd kill for it
Somebody stop this train
I'm feeling so sick

I'm sinking in it
I'm sinking in it now
I'm sinking in it
I'm sinking in it now

Don't tell me
Please don't tell me
That my back was on the floor
Don't tell me
Please don't tell me
Anymore

Will you run away with me
Will you run away
Will you run away with me
Will you run away

Will you run away with me
Will you run away
Will you run away with me
Will you run away

Will you run away...

CIRCUS TOWN on Meet Me At The Fair

Written by Chris Trapper

Everytime I see mud on your face
I know you're coming back from that place
Where the wolves make a circle around you
Now it's time to let my love surround you

'Cause you're coming back from a circus town
Where they never let you laugh
You're coming back from a circus town
Where they split your head in half
You said "Catch me I'm falling,
catch me I'm falling, catch me
I'm falling down dead"

Don't want to see your eyes closed behind the curtains
Don't want to feel your feet cold for certain
Don't want to look at you lost in your coffin
Better stop your search then, for a permanent grin

'Cause you're coming back from a circus town
Where they never let you laugh
You're coming back from a circus town
Where they split your head in half
You said "Catch me I'm falling,
Catch me I'm falling
Catch me I'm falling down dead"

All your trials will soon be over
All your trials will soon be over

So they put a canon right into your mouth
They lit the match and your brains flew south
You can take my arms and jump down from that train
Destination straight down the drain

'Cause you're coming back from a circus town
Where they never let you laugh
And coming back from a circus town
Where they split your head in half
You said "Catch me I'm falling,
Catch me I'm falling
Catch me I'm falling down dead"

And you said "Catch me I'm falling,
Catch me I'm falling
Catch me I'm falling down dead"

SHY on Meet Me At The Fair

She moved to the city when she was twenty one
But the way things began was like they'd already begun
Found the wrong man knowing someday he's gonna run
But you can't wait a life time for a savior to come

But that's me looking at you
With just a notion in my head
That's me looking at you
From the crowd

She lived in a house on Crescent Avenue
Some nights I'd sneak down her street just to see if I could catch a view
One night I saw her boyfriend leaving her house after a fight
God, I wished I could hold her when she turned out the lights, crying

That's me looking at you
With just a notion in my head
That's me looking at you
From the crowd

Shy
Shy

It's a masquerade party she said I'm invited
Kathy, I could not be any more delighted
See, I got this urge, I don't know how long I can fight it
If you dug my grave I'd gladly dive inside it

There'd me looking at you
With just a notion in my head
That's me looking at you
From the ground

Shy
Shy

See I don't have no costume, I don't wear no new clothes
My body just follows where ever my heart goes
When I showed up naked, the whole crowd looked frightened
I turned around and ran home and I got struck by lightning

That's me looking at you
With just a notion in my head
That's me looking at you
From the crowd

Shy
Shy

Shy
Shy

Shy
Shy

And traffic's building down the lane
I'm an angry taxi driver's target
But that's okay
It's just the way he shakes his pain

Somedays my lover can't complete me
Sometimes my work cannot be done
Somedays I see my sun as setting
And I don't know, I don't know which way to run

And everytime I see you dance my Wild Irish Rose
I want to jump up on stage with you
I want to give you my clothes
And let the devil take my soul

The sign said "Live Exotic Dancers"
Not surprised I find my self inside
It's like I'm looking for some answer
For why my spirits dead inside

And everytime I see you dance my Wild Irish Rose
I want to jump up on stage with you
I want to give you my clothes
And let the devil take my soul

And I never met my great grandfather
But I swear I saw his ghost last night
He looked just like he looked in pictures
Except he was not black and white

And everytime I see you dance my Wild Irish Rose
I want to jump up on stage with you
I want to give you my clothes
And let the devil take my soul

WELL ANYWAY on Meet Me At The Fair

Feels like I'm living in a T.V. show
Stuck in the winter up in Buffalo
It's just like an anvil landed right on your toe
Saying today if you're in pain
Tomorrow you'd better change
Somehow, some way
Well anyway

I ripped off the cashier at the corner store
Neck deep in trouble, always looking for more
But the police were waiting patiently out the back door
Saying today if you're enchained
Tomorrow you're free again
Somehow, some way
Well anyway

And the shine remains
They can't take our shine away
And the shine remains

I can't believe Louise is moving back to Mexico
Will I see her again? She said, "I don't know"
Just when you think that you're above it all you're below
Saying today my life's in flames
But tomorrow it's bound to rain
Somehow, some way
Well anyway

And the shine remains
They can't take our shine away
And the shine remains

Well I was just a kid and I didn't know where to go
So I took a one way ticket with the traveling show
But I loved you more
Much more than you will ever know
And today if you're in pain
Then tomorrow you'd better change
Somehow, some way
Well anyway
Anyway
Anyway
Anyway

CAN'T SHAKE IT on Meet Me At The Fair

There's a lady come lately
She's dancing with me in the street
And though I know we're both faking
I'm not waiting for loose ends to meet
See she's holding me close
And I don't even know her last name
And I might hate myself in the morning
But tonight it's okay

Spent the night at this party
With people that I hardly knew
And they were talking ambition
As I was listening my resentment grew
So I mulled in the corner
And drank 'till I wasn't afraid
And I said, "I might hate myself in the morning,
 But you're also a waste"

See, we know no blood flows in the dry desert clay
Hard lessons I learned on an October day
And I can't shake 'em off
I can't shake them off

So he said with a vengeance
"Hey you, why don't you keep your mouth shut"
And I said, "What's gonna happen
You fat-assed fool, so then what"
So I followed him outside
And I made sure I took the first swing
Knowing tonight what's so god damn important
Doesn't really mean a thing

See, we know no blood flows in the dry desert clay
Hard lessons I learned on an October day
And I can't shake 'em off
No, I can't shake 'em off
Oh, I can't shake them off
I can't shake them off
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

ONE SUMMER DAY on Meet Me At The Fair

Too much joy and not enough laughter
All the crap that came came after me
In a rolling motorcade that's why I couldn't stay
So you say you can't believe me now
Have another drink and believe me anyhow
When your life falls all to pieces, you've got to rearrange

One summer day I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

Well, I may have looked awkward but I know how to dance
And that left an imprint on her underpants
In the back of her father's car on a Friday night in June
Yeah, the words we spoke we thought were true
Gave me your heart and I gave it back to you
Why you crying Mary Jane?
I never swore that I wouldn't change

One summer day I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

I never thought that I would see you rolling so, so low, so low
I never thought that I would see you moving so slow, so slow

See the day I die is the day that I see my life flash before my eyes stop the rewind
Find the day that I turned eighteen it was a day that I never knew
'Cause I got too drunk to even see all the truth that was spewing out of me
In the bathroom all night long
Swore I'd never drink again

One summer day I was not ashamed or afraid
Me and my friends swimming naked in the lake
Take me back there someday

THE OTHER WORLD on Meet Me At The Fair

They come from the high rise side of town
And expect us to walk with our heads looking down
Well they blow each other kisses
While we kiss each others souls
In the other world

And I'm not saying that we're better
'Cause I sunk too low to ever think that way
'Cause we're all stuck in the same weather
But they claim they're not afraid
In the other world

And let them say that we will never change
And let them say that we will never change
And they'll be sorry someday

We're the child of a crazy mother
High on a tight rope dangling in the sky
But I would not trade my life for any other
'Cause they don't even try
In the other world

And let them say that we will never change
And let them say that we will never change
And let them say that we will never change
And let them say that we will never change
And they'll be sorry someday
They'll be sorry someday
They'll be sorry someday
Sorry someday

TILT-A-WHIRL-GIRL on Meet Me At The Fair

Written by Chris Trapper

I took a ride around the world
With a tilt-a-whirl girl
A tilt-a-whirl girl
She'll twist and turn just when you think you know her
Like a roller coaster
Like a roller coaster

Took me for a ride on my white bed
"Come with me," she said
"Come with me," she said
I'll show you a place you'll never want to come back
Close to a heart attack,
Yeah right, like a heart attack

The only thing that she showed me is that this whole world's dead
The only way to survive is to climb out of your own head
And if you say "This world's confused," it's a joke
It's got sticks in its spokes, sticks in its spokes
But we'll die young and foolish, I hope
Send our lives up in smoke, our lives up in smoke

The only thing that she showed me is that this whole world's dead
The only way to survive is to climb out of your own head
The only thing that she showed me is that this world's already gone
The only way to survive is to step off your own front lawn

I took a ride around the world
With a tilt-a-whirl girl
A tilt-a-whirl girl
With a tilt-a-whirl girl
A tilt-a-whirl girl

SHAMELESS EXPLANATION on Meet Me At The Fair

Written by Chris Trapper
    Transcribed by Gerrit (http://thepushstars.com)
As performed by The Push Stars on Meet Me At The Fair

Give me your shameless explanation
And this time I won't close my eyes
I want the truth with no exaggerations
'Cause really we don't have the time

Well, so what if you come from New York City
That's no excuse to be so cold
It's just a different way of living
But for you it's like a big black hole

My love comes back to haunt me now
These ghosts don't sing they're motionless
They're telling me it's over

So how come you're always counting
The money on other people's clothes?
So where did you get that new ring?
And what's that hiding up your nose?

So what if you spend half your life all messed up
Well me, I'm fucked up all the time
You'd have to be blind not to see that your dramas all made up
I pray there's a little truth in mine

My love comes back to haunt me now
These ghosts don't sing they're motionless
They're telling me it's over
It's over
It's over
It's over
It's over

My love comes back to haunt me now
These ghosts don't sing they're motionless
They're telling me it's over

SILVERTOWN on Meet Me At The Fair

Written by Chris Trapper

If you want to see Silvertown
The best time's when no one's around
In the dark of the morning
You can sneak through some backyard
To see the beautiful city
Open like Christmas in the sky

Just then something blinds your eyes
Like a comet or a sparkler on the Fourth of July
It's an angel falling from the skyline
Crying over all the wrong she sees
They'll be swimming in the streets
Well I try to understand
By holding out my hands touching her teardrops

Deep down in Silvertown
There's a clown hung on a cross
He's been burned by words that he never deserved at all
So I'm gonna be taking his place
Trading my frown for his face
And if I ever lose faith
Well, I'll just look at the pictures of him smiling on my wall

Angel falling from the skyline fighting
Why don't you look me in the eye
You never even try
Well, I've got so much to say
But you're bound to turn away
So why even try to

Angel falling from the skyline
Laughing at me surrendered on my knees
She never said this would be easy
I said, "I feel so down"
She says, "You're bound to come around"
I said, "I feel so down"
She says, "You're bound to come around"
I said, "I feel so down"
She says, "You're bound to come around"
Welcome to Silvertown
