Gerrit's Recent Concert Experiences

1997
Sherm, Beth, and I drove from Rochester, NY to New Paltz, NY on May 9th, 1997
so that we could see the Push Stars for the second time and pick up
their new EP before I left
for California. They played two full sets at McGillicuddy's that night
and basically rocked the place!
Sherm dragged me to see two bands who I had never seen or heard of before
on Friday, March 21, 1997. We went and saw the Push Stars open up for
Spirit of the West
at a really cool club in Buffalo, NY.
Once I heard a few of the Push Stars' songs, I immediately decided to
buy their CD. They were great! With
Spirit of the West,
on the other hand,
I was a little weary about their music because of how Sherm described them
(although enthsiastically). However,
even though they fit his description perfectly, they were awesome! Once
the first song was over, I leaned over to him and told him I liked them.
They have one guy who plays an accordian, one guy who plays flutes or an
acoustic guitar, and of course the rest of any regular band (bass, guitar,
drums). Most of their songs are hilarious drinking songs with an interesting
irish/scottish/whatever sound, but that's only half of them. That was
definitely a fun concert; check 'em out!
The eight time that I saw Jewel
was on Saturday, March 15th, 1997 at
the Palace Theater in Columbus, OH. This was an EveryDay Angels event
as there were a group of us (Lauren, Tim, Shelley, Liz, Mia, Nate,
Michelle, and I) who met before the show. Some of us had EDA posters
and even got to meet and talk to/hang out with the Rugburns.
The show was wonderful and Jewel put on another exhasperating
two hours performance with even more new songs.
The seventh time I saw Jewel
was on Monday, February 24th, 1997 at SUNY
Geneseo in Geneseo, NY (near Rochester). This was the first time that
The Rugburns opened up for her and put on a spectacularly fun act.
This was the first time I had seen them live and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Jewel played almost a full two hours and was quite mezmerizing as
usual.
Check out my previous experiences too!!!
